My Founders Story

My founders story began when I was engaged with a short timeline. (Basically the kiss of death in the wedding industry- ha!) Having less than 6 months to plan our dream wedding seemed like no big deal, but I would soon find out how hard it would be for “some” wedding vendors. I became a professional bridal seamstress in my 20’s which was far from normal for my generation. I worked for an interior designer as a seamstress on the weekends while studying Speech Language Pathology at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Sewing in a workroom was never part of my college plan, but it would soon be an encouragement to start my own sewing business during undergrad. Instead of getting my masters in Speech Language Pathology, I decided to make a giant U turn and double major with Apparel Design. (2 Degrees that don’t go together!) After working in Corporate America for 5 years, I knew I wanted to own a business to make an impact on women. I wanted to be one of those informative seamstresses that encouraged 20-year-old Sue. After 17 years, so much has happened in my life because of you! Now I specialize in short timelines, VIP appointments and in house alterations. I cannot wait to share my passion for wedding dresses (okay, so maybe it’s an obsession) and introduce you to Tammy!

Along Came Tammy

10 years ago a seamstress friend from David’s Bridal introduced me to Tammy Le! Out of the blue, Tammy walks into our bridal salon (we had 2 locations at the time. One in Fort Worth on Camp Bowie and One in Mansfield on Debbie Lane.) Tammy was ready for small business with 3 sons that needed flexibility from their mother’s schedule. Now those 3 young boys are all grown men traveling all over the world giving Tammy the ability to become a full time business owner. From part time seamstress to full time business owner, Tammy learned to sew in her 20’s as well! Tammy’s mission is to make alterations affordable, bring patience to a stressful time of the wedding planning cycle, and give you the BEST experience at Ava’s Bridal! She understands how stressful the alteration process can be for you and your family. We partner to give you “2 seamstresses that opened a bridal salon” a true Pulitzer with sewing as a dying art. (and super expensive!) 1 Seamstress during the shopping process (Sue) and 1 Seamstress once your dress arrives (Tammy). Together, we have transformed what is possible thanks to YOU!

Our space is 7,000 square feet of wedding dresses and alterations! Dazzit. No prom dresses, no mothers dresses, no bridesmaid dresses and no flower girl dresses. Therefore, we have a LOT to show you with an in depth process designed for brides who appreciate connection thru our VIP process. You will see in this store tour video, that I share my personal struggles as a full figured woman dress shopping when I was engaged. Even if you are not plus size like me, you will see that our process is thoughtful, personalized and not pressured/rushed. This will be a natural experience for you and your family to feel right at home choosing your dress. That’s why we do the research before we meet… this will not be a blind date where we wing it and never read your forms. Yikes!

I Hate to Be Forward, But…

Can we talk numbers? When I tell you my goal was to remove sticker shock for consumers by educating, it would be quiet prudish of me to not share pricing on the next steps… bridal alterations! The last thing I want you doing is over spending on alterations, but I also want you to see the cool stuff you can do to shape, sculpt and transform your wedding dress if you wish.
