When Should You Schedule Alterations

Even if you are actively losing inches?

I want to give you guidance on this question. Hear me out! What I recommend goes against what the internet may have taught you or against what seems logical. We have 7,000 square feet which allows us to offer more at no additional charge than we did 17 years ago.

^ Above, is an older vlog explaining “this topic” in an Instagram Live. You can listen podcast style or watch. I do have this question on my list to update for 2024!

When to Start?

If your wedding is June 7th, 2024, start your alterations at Ava’s Bridal as early as 4-6 months early. We started offering a “FREE weight loss check” in 2017 when we moved into our 7,000 square foot salon at 6663 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth Texas. This building is MORE than enough space to house your dress and allow you to start before the crowds of brides who were taught to start 2-3 months prior to their wedding date.

^ Above is a 16 second video of Casey’s dress during alterations! Casey started early to avoid the stress leading up to her destination wedding in January. The holidays encouraged her to start early to avoid the hustle and bustle. Casey scheduled a “Free Weight Loss Check” at her 1st fitting. The sculpting at her waist was taken in more as she lost inches. See the final photo/video of her taking her dress home. Can you see how snatched her waist looks?

What Happens During a “Free Weight Loss Check”?

Tammy (one of the owners and seamstress) and Sue (hello, I’m Sue founder of Ava’s Bridal also a bridal seamstress) leave the seams open so we can make the adjustments without charging you more.

We found over the years, brides who were losing inches would wait 2 or 3 months before their wedding day and be incredibly stressed. Some were told to wait the month of their wedding. Ouch!

This is not the ideal time for you to start on your dress because so much is due the month of your wedding that can really impact your experience on your dress and many times leave you in a mess.

Let’s Look at a Calendar Together

Your wedding is June 7th, 2024, starting end of January or early February is ideal. It’s early enough that the “day of coordination” hasn’t begun and gives you plenty of time to plan a Free Weight Loss Check.

If that seems to early, start end of February, March, etc. As I teach my brides online and in person, you HAVE to trust your own instincts/plans over taking the opinions of others as biblical.

Consider Pre-Booking Your Alterations

We will talk more about what it means to “Pre-Book” your alterations and how it benefits you in the next post. You can also comment “Pre-Book” below and I will send the link directly to you!

I cannot say enough about my experience at Ava’s Bridal and their staff! Ava’s Bridal was actually my first appointment for dress shopping and honestly I didn’t plan on going anywhere else after meeting Sue and Tammy. They were all so loving and intentional from the beginning. Sue and Jamaie literally made my dreams come true by picking dresses that they knew I would LOVE after filling out the survey. If you are looking for more than just a wedding dress picking experience and alterations in house, Ava’s Bridal is the place to go!

Shopping for the perfect mother dress can be fun but also incredibly overwhelming. Mom’s play a big role the day of their child’s wedding so it’s important that she finds a style she loves and is comfortable in. All eyes will be on mom when she walks down the aisle into the ceremony and when she’s announced during the reception. We also can’t forget about all the pictures she will be in! These 3 essential tips are important when shopping for the mother of the bride dress!

Click here for dates + times for our upcoming Mother’s Trunk Show.

Tip #1: Plan Early

Let’s start with the #1 question, when should I start shopping for my mother’s dress?
Ideally, you’ll want to start shopping at least six to eight months before the wedding! That way you have plenty of time for the dress to arrive after your order is placed and to start alterations.
Don’t stress out if you have less than six month’s before the wedding. Shop around to find stores where you can purchase instock! We will have our mother’s trunk show March 23-24 and March 26-27.

Tip # 2: Do Your Research

It’s important to do your research to know exactly what you’re shopping for! Narrowing down the details can save you time and stress when looking for the perfect mother’s dress.

1. Talk to your Daughter: This is so important to take a moment to have a discussion with your daughter on what dress styles you both have in mind for the wedding! I’m sure mom already knows all the wedding details but it’s great to communicate to each other to make sure you’re both happy! Pictures are better than words so it’s great if you both find pictures of inspiration styles to share with each other.

2. Consider Wedding Colors: There’s no set rule on what color the mother of the bride should wear. Consider the wedding colors and wedding party. The mother of the bride dress should compliment the wedding party and not clash with the other wedding colors.

3. Connect with the mother of the groom before you go shopping: Communication is key and it will benefit the both of you to stay in sync about color coordinating! It’s great to discuss colors and places you plan to shop. You may even decide to shop together!

4. Click here to check out our newest Mother Styles

We have our Mother’s Event three times a year at Ava’s Bridal! You can find our event posted on our Facebook Page!

Tip # 3 : Consider the logistics

Take in to account wedding colors, season, time of day, location and formality! This is so important because it can dictate the appropriate attire for mom. Depending on cultural and religious customs, it can require certain dress codes for the ceremony so a cute jacket or shawl should be considered.

Consider the season, time of day, and location! If you’re from Texas, you’ll know to expect the unexpected so keep that in mind when shopping. Knee-length and tea length styles are perfect for outdoor summer weddings, while floor length styles are perfect for indoor winter weddings. Ultimately, I know you’ll make the best decision on what to wear for your daughter’s wedding 🥰

Let’s book now: Message us on Facebook and let us know you want to attend! Can’t wait to get you started.

XOXO,
Sue
